Passage: 1 John 2:18-27

It's common to hear well-intentioned Christians look at current events in our world and say, "We're definitely in the last days."  The Apostle John would agree with that sentiment, but he would add to it, saying "We've been in the last days (or 'the last hour') ever since Christ ascended to Heaven and poured out the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  Do you want proof?  Look at all the false teachers that are plaguing the Church."  According to John, false teachers, whom he calls "antichrists," are evidence that we're in the last hour.  Though they beckon us to receive their new message, John reassures us that we have all the truth we need for salvation and godliness; it was delivered by the Apostles in their preaching and made permanent in their writings (Scripture).  As in John's day, withstanding false teachers is accomplished by abiding in the Apostles' message.
