Ruth 1:1-6 “To Moab and Back”
These early verses of the Book of Ruth depict a dismal scene. Under God's covenant curse, Naomi and her family left their inheritance in the Promised Land for the unclean country of Moab. Her sons even married foreign women, those not belonging to the covenant people. The choices she and her family made had everything to do with earthly convenience and were lacking in faith and repentance. But in spite of such widespread sin, which characterized this family and the Jewish nation, God was preparing to act and bring forth a Savior.
